Some suggestions:
For teachers: think about how you would ask about their 'take' on co-education' - ('take' is a very 'Srishti' slang) In any case this is a delicate question and should come later.

Bring up the question of favourites gently - may be you could frame it in terms of students they really remember? Teachers are usually sensitive about having favourites.

Does the formality in the student- teacher relationship break down on some occasions?

Ask about friendships amongst colleagues rather than 'relationships with colleagues'

For students

Tell me something about yourself is too abstract for a young teenager - ask about school life, friends, and something quite straightforward to being with.

Before you go into girl/boy friends you might say that you have noticed girls and boys sit separately and ask why... bring up opposite sex friendships gently and later in the interview.

Also do they have groups, gangs, do they have fights in class - on what basis. How do they show that they don't like someone.
