Field note 2

Second day in school by Kiran

The task is to take a workshop for students that will help in our research. Our intention was to make students speak about their feelings and interests. So my teammate and I thought to do few easy questions with the help of chits that would talk about their favorite objects and the reasons behind them. Another idea was to make them to draw their most happiest day in their life, so that we get an idea of what and how they think.

So we initially waited for the students to come for approx. 15 minutes. We had the students from the 8th standerd. We introduced ourself to the class and asked their name. Also we explained about what we will be doing with them. Next I called someone randomly and told him to take a chit, the question was, “what is your favorite color and why?” he said ‘I like red colore because…(he didn’t say anything)’. He got completely blank, so his friends started to help him. The same happened with other students as well. And we gave them the paper to draw, few students started to draw but most of the students were thinking what to do and they mostly drew similarly.

Hi Kiran
Field-notes are from your observations not a report on the focus group.
Please re-read the handout on writing field notes and do separate out your observations from your analysis.
