Research Question and Field Notes - Part I

RESEARCH QUESTION:

What kind of relationships are formed among the students and in between a teacher and a student at school?

I feel studying relationships is important because it helps in knowing what helps a teacher or a student react in a particular way (negative or positive), how they work together, how they store or share things. This all is important because I am carrying out this research with a thought of developing a space for carrying out various activities and studies at a school. (There I find the 'what for' answer for my question of what will happen after studying all this).

The questions that will help me to carry out this research further include - How co-education affects the student's being/behavior?, What are the reactions of teachers towards the co-education system?, Is the student comfortable in discussing his/her problems with a teacher in person?, Are teachers biased towards some students depending on some xyz factor?, How does a particular group of friends perceive the other group of friends? How do the students collectively respond in any class and further towards the teacher? How and where do the students have lunch? I will search the answers for these questions that will help me carry out the research.

So the overall question is - what relationships do students have with each other and with teachers in the classroom and outside?.
Now you need to think about how this can be broken into smaller themes that will guide your observations and interviews. These could include
1. co-education
2. friendships
3. cliques or groups - politics between them
4. relationships with teachers in class
relationships with the teachers outside class or outside learning activities
5. teachers' favourites amongst students and favourite teachers on the part of students (on what basis these occur).
