Research question by Anuja

My research question is based on the function of discipline in the overall development of a child, i.e, upto what extent is it able to affect the child's mindset and ethics and how far is it volunteered by the students?

Discipline is what shapes a person's habits and culture. Whatever may be the social background of a human, a decent and orderly lifestyle defines his/her character socially.

Starting with the assembly, which was separate for the primary and secondary students, had more physical exercises for the high school students and thus, was longer than that for the primary ones. One of the members from the choir group would read news to the students in Tamil.

We were with the 8th grade students, learning 'English Prose' for one full period of 40 minutes. The seats were separate for boys & girls & so were the sections where they'd keep their plates. Girls wore a salwar kurta and those with long hair wore two folded braids and the boys were in full pants & shirts. Since English was new to them, they were focussing on learning the spellings and meanings.

During the lunch time, girls and boys formed separate lines and said their prayers before they started eating. Most of the activities in the school were monitored by the students themselves such as gardening, serving the food, sweeping and cleaning their own plates. While girls took care of the domestic work, boys were concerned more with inspecting (the uniform, class strength, cleanliness etc.)

Communicating in English wasn't a trouble even with the primary students, the subtle difficulty was reading and writing. In the Chemistry class, we saw that a random student would come up and solve the first problem on the blackboard. In the Skylight session again the girls and boys sat separately. 

 The students refused to show any kind of commotion or disrespect to the school's decorum. They all were properly dressed up in their respective uniforms, carried on their activities voluntarily without any overseer. Sure, they respected their school regulations and seemed happy to follow them. May be for some, their school is a place for refuge from other adverse conditions and that's how many of the great people are born.
